Where You’ll Stay & Dive From

We’ll be based at Ocean Backpackers, a small, well-rated hostel in the heart of Ilfracombe. It’s clean, comfortable, calm and rated 8.4 on Booking.com.

Everything is on our doorstep: cafés, pubs, shops and the harbour, with the port just a short walk away for an easy start on dive day.

Diving is done from a comfortable catamaran run by Ilfracombe’s top dive boat charter. The boat is fully set up for divers, with an onboard toilet and a proper dive lift, making entries and exits easy.

Simple, practical and well-run, so you can focus on the diving, not the logistics.

We’re not just selling dive trips, we’re building a community.

Every Ride is hand-built for travellers who love adventure, good times and zero stress.

We sort the logistics, you just show up, dive and make memories you’ll be bragging about for months.

The Ride

Itinerary

If you’ve booked a pool refresher dive, we’ll meet at 14:30 to get you back in the water and up to speed.

If not, arrive in Ilfracombe and check in to the accommodation from 4:00pm. Once everyone’s in, we’ll head out for a group dinner around 6:45pm, followed by a relaxed evening getting to know each other. Nothing rushed, just a chilled start to the the trip before dive day.

An early start with an easy breakfast (bacon sandwich or equivalent) before heading to the harbour.

We’ll spend the day diving around Lundy Island, with two guided dives at sheltered seal sites. Encounters are often close and highly interactive, but always seal-led and conducted under a strict code of conduct, with a full briefing beforehand.

Between dives, expect chocolate bars and downtime on deck. In the evening, we’ll head out for a proper dinner and drinks, a more celebratory social to round off the day.

FAQ's

UK weather can be unpredictable, and safety always comes first. In rare cases, the trip may need to be cancelled up to 48 hours before departure if conditions are unsafe.

If this happens, you’ll be offered:

A place on an alternative trip, or
A full refund if the trip cannot go ahead

We know cancellations are frustrating, but English weather is outside of our control and we’ll always make the call with safety as the priority.

Yes, absolutely. We’ve made the package as inclusive as possible, so standard equipment rental is included in the price. If you prefer to bring all your own gear, we’ll give you a discount.

Just book as normal and select “bringing my own equipment” on the post-booking form, we’ll deduct it from your balance.

We only offer full rental or no rental (all in or all out) to keep things simple, but you’re welcome to bring a few personal bits if you prefer.

This isn’t luxury, it’s adventure done right. We stay in a clean, comfortable, well-rated hostel that’s ideal for divers who care more about what’s below the surface rather than fancy extras.

The hostel is calm, sociable and well located, giving you everything you need for a good night’s sleep after a day of diving. Accommodation is in shared dorm rooms, split by gender.

Simple, practical and exactly what suits this kind of trip.

This is a UK dive trip, so packing smart makes a big difference, even in summer.

• Sleepwear & toiletries

For the boat & diving:

• Personal dive gear (unless stated otherwise)

So finally, in 2026, both are happening, I get to dive Lundy, and I get to turn it into a Ride trip.

This is just a short and easy UK trip, 2 nights, 2 dives and 2 social evenings to bring together the crew.

From fresh faced 18 year old me on a gap year, to building The Ride 🌎

Travel has always been the thing that lit me up. Learning to dive when I was 16, the first worldwide trip at 18. I’ve never really stopped chasing that feeling of landing somewhere new for the first time.

Fast forward 6 months from that diving pic in the Great Barrier Reef, I found myself in IT sales 😵‍💫 which spoiler alert, definitely was not my passion. Eventually I took a step in the right direction and landed a job with a tour operator, a couple years later & after the pandemic, suddenly I was running group trips in Thailand and Bali.

That’s where I found the thing that fired me up like nothing else.

Taking people away, creating memories, seeing strangers become friends... it changed my life.

So I decided to take the leap and build something of my own: The Ride Travel.

Trips for divers and adventure seekers, built the way I actually like to travel, group vibes, incredible experiences and a community that lasts beyond the holiday.

This isn’t just about me. It’s about the people who join, the adventures we share and the stories that come from it. It’s Ride of life, the ups and downs of travel, all shared together.

As a newer diver, the idea of a full week long hardcore “eat, sleep, dive, repeat” trip can feel a little one-dimensional. Don’t get me wrong, a few days like that on a liveaboard? Absolutely. But sometimes, we want balance. Some jungles. Some islands. Some street food. Some adventures above the surface too 🌴🍜🌅

That’s the sweet spot for us, a proper holiday with diving, not just diving.
